Nancy Myers Altemus, Artist in Residence

Nancy Myers Altemus was raised in the DC area, and is a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. She earned B.A.’s in Studio Art and Art History from University of Viriginia and has a Masters Degree in Art Education from George Washington University and The Corcoran School of Art.  She also studied art and art history in Florence, Italy. She taught at the elementary and secondary levels in Montgomery and Fairfax County School Systems and at Mater Dei School in Bethesda. She also volunteered with Washington Very Special Arts, a program for children with special needs.  Her “claims to fame” in Kensington include large-scale murals at Café Monet (no longer in operation),  Kensington Nursery School, and Temple Emmanuel. She never misses an opportunity to create paintings, and routinely sets up her easel for Kensington's "Paint the Town" Art Show.  She is most proud of her “living” creations, children Bear, Joey, Catherine and Frankie, and is eternally grateful to her husband, Mark, for encouraging her to make her dream of “YOUNG AT ART” a reality.
